About Becky Schmooke, owner of Becky's Mindful Kitchen & Cooking School

Becky Schmooke grew up in Iowa City and believes strongly in supporting local farms and businesses. She advocates organic and seasonal eating whenever possible. After getting diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2011, Becky decided to rethink how she was eating.  After spending time researching traditional diets and spending more time in the kitchen, Becky decided to share her love for food and cooking with others. Becky is not a dietitian or nutritionist, she instead advocates eating unprocessed foods, using real ingredients and whole foods but does not give nutritional advice and can recommend licensed dietitians in the area if that is the direction you would like to go. Becky is a mom to 3 girls and considers them and their father her toughest critics when it comes to new recipes.  Teaching both adults and children how to have fun in the kitchen, embracing creativity and learning from mistakes has been an absolute joy.  You will find a happy homestead with dairy goats, chickens, dog and gardens and woods to explore when you visit for a class or camps.
