Take Time To Pause

I used to struggle to pause.
To temper the energizer bunny level drive.
Today was the first really hot day of the year. Close to 90 degrees and sunny.
I had been working on the new stone path leading up to the goat playground, grateful for my pick axe, mallet and shovel, pounding in posts and leveling the grade.
I was using the time to work on the talk I’m giving, rethinking different ways to lead into it, the stories I wanted to use, going down one mental path then doubling back and heading down another.
I then felt the all too familiar tug of a goat on my pants.
I looked at Clover, and looked at the step I just finished. I caught myself wanting to nudge her aside and get moving on the next one.
But I didn’t.
I’ve learned to value the pauses.
It’s in the pause that life happens, that laughter comes easier, gratitude flows and connection to what really matters becomes possible.
I can do pauses much better than I can do breaks.
Pauses don’t require rearranging plans, getting off track or even slowing down.
Because after a pause things happen with more ease. I get into that flow state faster and frustration stays at bay.
A pause to pose with Clover for a photo, give her a good snuggle and delight in the silliness that is a goat- a pause that lasted just a few minutes and yet the impact continued into the next hour until I was ready to move onto the next project.
Don’t forget to pause.
And pose with a goat.
