Finding Moments of Silly and Connection

I know how ridiculous I look to anyone who passes by my minivan before I speak at a conference or event, and I’m okay with it.
Because my pretalk ritual is to put Lose Yourself by Eminem on and keep up lyric by lyric with the volume blasting. And then I switch to Hotel California as I walk from the car to the location of the talk.
If I’m in a hotel room, I put in my AirPods and still sing out loud.
My ritual is having fun before giving a talk.
Finding moments of silly.
And moments of connection.
Music is such a great way to ground, inspire, energize and relax us.
Music is a powerful trigger that can snap us out of a funk, bring a smile to our face and our heart. It moves us to tears, and moves us to our feet.
I get pumped up with Lose Yourself and ground myself and become instantly happy with Hotel California- it sets me up to have fun.
Do you or did you ever have a ritual around music you listened to before an event or situation?
Big thank you to the nurses who helped make tonight’s conference talk extra special. They easily move up in the top 3 of kindest audience as far as being generous with smiles and chuckles.
