Here's To Being Wanted, Not Needed

This morning I wasn’t needed, and it was great.
Despite having made myself throw up over 20,000 times in my life- I laid awake for hours last night determined to not give into the nausea that was steadily growing.
But soon I was seeking relief on the cold bathroom floor and adding items to the list that I won’t be eating anytime soon.
Being a T1 diabetic, 98% of the time, stomach bugs send me to the ER. And with Bill on shift, I was on my own to manage my sugars and kids.
I stumbled out of my room at 6am after a night of zero sleep ready to dig deep and get Finn up for school.
She met me on the stairs. Dressed for the day.
I told her I was sick and without skipping a beat, my little 7yr old took my hand and led me back to my bed. Tucked me in, and told me to not worry, that she had things covered.
She then proceeded to make her breakfast, brush teeth, get her lunch and do multiple self time checks to make sure she was out the door in time for the bus.
As parents it can be hard to let go, to not be needed.
I see the same issue in the workplace with leaders letting go of control and delegating.
The goal?
Raise kids that want you, but don’t need you.
Empower your employees to become leaders and take on new responsibilities.
Be wanted. Not needed.
